Finding a sponsor or support network. I have isolated for so long that I have no friends or family that I would ever discuss what I am feeling or doing for support. I don't even have an emergency contact when asked at the Dr's office. How do I network here?
I have the support of my parents and they simply don’t understand the severity of addiction im torn between my life in recovery, which my parents think just a wacky cult worshiping whatever they deem a Higher Power (I agree with this but am keeping ab open mind), and the other end of the spectrum, a handful of close friends and family not in recovery reminds me that while I will always be working on my recovery, it doesn’t have to define me.
Networking may seem tough but the only way we can keep something is by giving it away—throughout your journey you’ll meet so many people that want to support you, including on this app.
Attending meetings and finding a sponsor sort of just happens when you keep an open mind and work on implementing everything the support group has to offer. There are other recovery methods that might be worth exploring but NA (my fellowship of choice) clearly has worked for a significant number of addicts. You’ll be surprised at what you learn and who you’ll meet by regularly attending meetings.
TL;DR: focus on your well-being and find some meetings you like and a support group and sponsor will materialize when you least expect it. Keep accumulating clean time and you’ll start to see that this community is always here to support you ( DM me if you ever need to talk something out). We’re all in this together—keep telling yourself “just for today”. You got this!
Download the app “Meeting Guide” it’s blue with a white chair on it. It shows you all the AA meetings even non AA meetings like smart recovery all around you !! Even just search up AA meeting near me on google and something should pop up hopefully ! That app definitely helps me tho ! check it out
