Finding it really hard to stay sober today :(

Finding it really hard to stay sober today :frowning: I’ve been doing so well though I don’t want to ruin my progress, but the holidays just have me so down I can’t handle it. And I start a new job tomorrow. :frowning: so much stress.

Just think about starting your new job and not wanting to have a hangover your first day. Is there something you can do to distract yourself or for self care? Maybe go for a walk, attend an online meeting, do something you enjoy? I sent you a friend request so feel free to reach out if you want more support today to maintain your sobriety!

Congratulations on a new job. That sounds exciting to me…. Don’t mean to sound like a record but finding a meeting to go to will give you a little reprieve if nothing else. Take a deep breath and remember how much better you are today. Stay :muscle:

I think people get “down” on the holidays, because we feel sorry for ourselves when our expectations aren’t being met. Self pity is a destroyer. Joy comes with gratitude. Gratitude and self pity can’t live in the same space. Find something to be grateful for. It always makes me feel better right away.

Aa meetings. Aa. Org. 90&90 meetings in 90 days.:dromedary_camel:

Awesome job on 26 days !! I have 23:) keep up the good work !

Alcoholism is calling your name. It's telling you that this time everything will be okay. But you know from experience that it never is, is it? It's a big fat lie. Especially in early sobriety when you start getting the idea in your head that a drink will fix things you have to learn to play the scene all the way forward. You might feel good for the first drink or so but sooner or later when you wake up, if you wake up at all you're going to be right back where you are at this moment and you will have accomplished nothing.

Now you will have to start all over again. I said this in a couple comments lately that one of the great truths in life is that life is tough. Normal people make life look so easy while we all koholics run from everything and pick up a drink when we don't feel good about life. We have to learn to live from day to day without picking up a drink. Whatever you're feeling during those moments, just say to yourself " this too shall pass."

Once you accept the fact that there's going to be bad days and that life is tough, the fact that life is tough no longer matters and you will at the same time learn how to excel in life. Early sobriety is very difficult especially the first year. It seems to go by so slowly.

In my first couple years of staying sober I went to an AA meeting every day and I called somebody sometimes two or three people everyday. I also got into the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous because I knew that putting the cap on the bottle was only a beginning.
