Day 19 of total sobriety and after a very hard moment in my day, I thought for the first time “I should just go get drunk” because I wanted to feel numb. A former lover who is in recovery who moved away texted to check up on me at the exact moment I broke down crying in my car from realizing what I’d just thought. He immediately called when I told him what was going on and talked me through it then directed me to my first AA meeting. This guy hasn’t even hit six months sober yet, but was able to help. I hope that I can pay it forward to others one day.

That's how the program works man. You can "pay or forward " immediately by sharing your story with other struggling people.

Aw this is wonderful! Of course not breaking down- sending hugs! but trust me we've all been there.... oh boy I've been there so many times! but this beautiful example of the fellowship. Awww I really hope you are feeling better! I hope it was a great meeting and you raised your hand and said you were new! So proud of you!

I have had exactly that thought about cocaine so I know the feeling. Give yourself grace for thinking that, if this is the first time you thought that after 19 days you should be proud of yourself! I’m on day 21 and I’m getting down to maybe only a few times a day when I want a bump and it’s not on my mind constantly. I applaud you. Thank you for sharing your experience it helps to know we’re not alone. You will pay it forward. I believe in you.

Thanks for the encouragement folks. I enjoyed the meeting. I even shared because it was a super small turnout. I got a sponsor who actually sponsored my former lover and came highly recommended by him. I felt better today than I have in weeks. And I got my first two chips!
