Another major achievement under the belt… I had my first set of sober Thanksgiving celebrations in 18 years. One thing that was quickly apparent was that I was definitely the only one drinking as heavily as I was during the holidays each year prior. But, in my drunk brain back then I thought everyone was going as hard as I was. It was interesting to be able to see from the other point of view and understand that it was probably very obvious to others back then that I had a serious problem.
This upcoming Tuesday marks one month sober - the longest I’ve gone without drinking since I had my first drink when I was 17. It feels amazing. It feels strange. There are great days and there are hard days. But, nothing is harder than having to wake up daily with a wicked hangover, piece together the night before, and feel tons of regret and anxiety until I started all over again.
Cheers to many more exciting, coherent days ahead.
