Five years sober

Today marks my five year anniversary of sobriety, and thought I'd share my story in hopes of inspiration to others struggling.

So after a DUI in late March of 2017, I decided to quit drinking cold turkey (in hindsight, not the greatest idea...was drinking tequila and beer 24/7).
I was waiting tables, with withdrawals, and ended up having a massive seizure while at a table. I awoke to paramedics looking down at me, and ended up in the hospital for three days.
Malnourished and in very rough shape!

So long story short, I ended up joining a gym, and replacing the drinking with something more productive. Now, at 47, am in better shape and feel much, much better than when I was in my 20s. I can't even imagine living the partying lifestyle which once consumed me!

My advise to those struggling is to find an outlet...something you may have enjoyed in the past, perhaps, and concentrate on that. It does get easier!
Good luck to you all!

I'm glad you're feeling your best. I can't wait to be in my 40s feeling better than my 20s. Thank you for learning me know I can do that.

That’s a great milestone! I paint, sew , and so needlework. Too cold to be outside. Also I have a dog and 6 cats to play with!

Well those sound like some great outlet, especially the sewing...great skill to have!
I can't even sew on a button haha!

Busy hands! Keeps the stinking thinking out of my head.

I bet!
Keeping busy is key!

Thanks!
Start small. My original goal was to lose the weight from drinking, along with more I put on after quitting. Then I just kept up with it.
Getting a few training sessions isn't a bad idea either!
