Focusing on my studies and myself. Yesterday I found out that my kid doesn't trust me. Sober hearing this was quite difficult. Let's be honest at first I was pissed. Like good riddance kid. Stay with grandma then. ×insert angry as h#ll toddler× BE THAT WAY THEN!
Then I cooled down, and I was hurt. I understood where he was coming from. I have been an addict for his whole life. S#x addict. Space addict. Meth addict. Maybe an alcoholic. It was rough. However I am still sober through it.
I found with my own recovery, I couldn’t ask my kids to trust me I needed to show them that they could. It took time, and slowly they came around. Give it time. You can and will gain that trust.
If you ever need to talkk or vent I am here.
Thank you for the reminder. Ugh it is frustrating. However I guess all of this will be worth it in the end
First, that’s really great that you were able to hit the pause button and not react. It’s also great that you understood his feelings, and allowed him to express them with going bsc. Be grateful he’s young. You are recovering, and he won’t remember these difficult times. My kids were young teenagers when I started going off the rails with my multiple addictions. They are now 20 and 22. They lived thru my worst moments. At 10 plus months sober now, things are certainly better, but they are still angry, and I’m still very ashamed of my behavior. As you said…it’s rough, but I’m sober! Great job working thru the discomfort

I lost trust in everyone around me. It took me not to talk about what I’m doing in recovery but to show them how I’m recovering. This method helped gain the trust of just about everyone I let down. Today I have an honest program. Living a life I never thought possible. Friends I never thought I’d have. Family support.
Kudos on pausing and not reacting. It’s awesome when we can see our part in our anger/resentments. Spot checking our inventory has helped me not become belligerent and cause more harm.
Any time! Stay strong
Someone once told me that we recover faster than our family. And so far that has been very true for me. It’s hard and hurtful, but Instead of focusing on them I try to just keep proving them wrong everyday
Thank you I appreciate that. Stay strong bro! You rock.
You are in a good place. It’s hard being honest in the face of what means the most to us. And yet I know I cannot be anywhere else before I am fully where I am. Change is already happening faster where you are. Also sharing something that is so important is courage, it is action. It is enough leading you to more.
While the bright side of being a drunk are minimum. Usually the kids say to themselves I never want to be like that and they clear of such caouse.
I'm not a parent so I can't quite say I know what that would feel like, but oh my god, I feel devastated just reading this! You have a TON of strength to be sober through that!
Listen to your kids. They always speak truth.
Takes time for them to trust the clean and sober you.
