For my single people. Have you found it hard to meet people in such a alcohol positive society? I feel like everyone I meet and talk to, their only option for a date or outing is drinking.

Preach! I’ve found it extremely hard and find myself shutting people out completely as soon as they mention ā€œmeeting up for drinksā€.

Well, there is a dating side to this site. Suggest tho getting your foundation built solid before adding a relationship to the recovery. Yet, you’d be surprised how many folk out there are doing the sober dating now. Think the pandemic has woken up a lot of people to problems within. Stay sober and things will eventually work out.

It’s rough, or I’ll respond like oh I don’t drink, then I get ghosted haha

Yea, same here. I chose to work as a dishwasher, everyone knows I can’t afford to go out and drink

I’m a chef, it’s a hard industry to be in and staying sober. Keep strong my friend

Totally relate. Hoping to figure this out one day.

Dating sober is hard. In over three years I have had few positive dating experiences. Most people drink, which wouldn’t be a problem for me if their weekends didn’t revolve around drinking. I have come to the point where I am no longer actively looking, if I meet someone who is rad and doesn’t drink or drinks sparingly then sweet, if not I will keep being single. I have created a life where I am happy on my own, and I think that is the ultimate goal. As it relates to dates, I usually request to meet at a coffee shop during the day, eliminates the bar scene.

Dating sober has been absolutely discouraging, I’ve had the same problem with the men I’ve gone out with, drinking seems to be the only recreational thing to do, keep your chin up and take it one day at a time

When I was single I was very open that I don’t drink. A lot of my dates were at cafes.

:joy: same

Maybe try doing some hiking or outdoorsy meet ups? You'll meet people during a sober activity. Doesn't guarantee they are sober but at least you know they're capable of having fun without alcohol and actively doing it

When we are drinking, we meet people who drink. Just like when we go skiing we meet other ppl who ski.

It seems like everyone drinks but it isn’t true. I’m a chef too. And where I work there are 4 of us in recovery. At my last hotel job there were 6 of us.

Go live life. Do the stuff that you love. You’ll meet people who share that love, and something will build from there.

Dating sites are weird. The common interest is dating? At least on this site the common interest is sobriety. That’s a great common interest.

Right on! I’m right there with you. I have found happiness in sobriety and love being me. Growth and positivity within ourselves, maybe it will attract someone right when we’re not looking?! Either way, love my sober life!!!

Yep! So much of the dating world relies on drinking. Nervous before a date? Drink. Meet them for drinks. Have a drink on the date. Ugh. :woman_facepalming:t3: I don’t want that to be my life anymore.
