I started out drinking beer, wine, champagne, brown liquor, and transitioned to clear liquor at some point. I didn't consider myself to be an alcoholic because my friends drank just as much as I did so I didn't see anything wrong....until I started attending AA. Although I would only binge drink once a month from 2-5 days, it was still problematic. I would blackout, drunk text, wake up and obsess over getting another drink, not realize what time it was or how many days I had been drinking because I would be in a fog. You don't have to drink all month to be an alcoholic. If you lose control of drinking at any point, you could be an alcoholic. I finally surrendered and decided to work the steps with a sponsor and I no longer have a desire to drink. I attend the 24 hour zoom meeting. I'd suggest you try it out if you have a desire to quit drinking.
