Found out another one of my friends from rehab died. Sad. It really makes me recalibrate and reflect. This is such a deadly disease. So much more deadly than the one in the news. But the good news is that it is 100% treatable if we do 100% of the work.
This got me thinking that I need to reach out to another one of my rehab friends that I hadn’t heard from since October. Well before I could, I got a message from him. The bad news is he is back in sober living. The good news is he is back in sober living. I was so happy to hear from him! That’s God stuff right there.
Update- (sorry I just want to share) I’m going to his house for a meeting Thursday night!

Hey Shawn, my condolences for your loss. What a tragic reminder of the work we have to do every day. Sober living is fantastic. Have a great meeting!!
Sorry Shawn, I know how active you are on here and want to thank you for the service work you do trying to help others. It sucks but as you know, we can only be responsible for our own recovery. Best wishes.
I am so sorry
Shawn, sending you a hug, this stuff is real, and gosh darn it it sucks when one of us doesn’t get it in time. Hold sobriety close.
Just so sad...somehow it hits a little closer to home when actually knew the person!!
I lost my best friend to this disease two yrs ago this September.
So sorry Shawn
Gosh Sandy, then you had a front row seat. How terribly sad that had to be.
Did you meet her in sobriety or know her before?
I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. I'm glad to hear you've reconnected with your other friend through this tragic loss.
Yeah I did! I had been sober for ten yrs. when I met her. I took her to her first meeting...took a minute but she started working a solid program and had almost 6 yrs when she relapsed!! When I met her she had drank herself into congestive heart failure and almost died. We got super tight!! We did everything together. She even watched my youngest for me when he was little!! She was such a special person that at her celebration of life there was standing room only if you got there late!! But she just didn't take care of her health and when she relapsed she tried a few times to come back but she just couldn't! Because of her condition she ended up bleeding out through her nose all over her bedroom floor!!!
This is real Ya'll and it will take you out!!! I'm in tears right now...just so unnecessary..she was doing so good!
Sandy, I felt this in my heart. Thank you for sharing.
Sorry to hear
Is this from alcohol or something else? Sorry not trying to be insensitive I’m just not aware of alcohol causing this severity of health problems
Yep!!
I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s really unfortunate that I do not have 1 sober friend from when I went through an IOP. Addiction is such a horrible disease and it’s impact is profound.
So I had one of my friends die of alcoholism early this year. That is an ugly death and I was almost there three years ago. The friend that I had lost touch with and just found out about died of a heroin overdose.
Alcohol is a terrible killer and kills more people than you can imagine.
Sandy, before I got sober I had a ton of health problems and came very very close to death. I turned orange and bloated up. Over the span of a week in the hospital they drained 2 and half gallons off my abdomen as my organs started to shut down. I can’t imagine what that looked like from the outside as a loved one. One of the other things I had prior to hospitalization was frequent severe b1oody noses. One of my priorities in sobriety was ripping the stained carpet out of our bedroom. It was kind of ceremonial thing for me.
Grateful for you.
