Fourth step blues…

I’ve been currently working my fourth and fifth steps with my sponsor. Man… they told me I would feel a whole new freedom and closeness with G.O.D. But instead I’m feeling quite broken. Any advice on getting out of your own head and using that darkness for good?

Keep up the struggle. Slow and easy. Get honest with yourself in these steps. Get through them and be honest and you will at least get close to yourself. Don’t give up.

I can relate to that feeling. I am also working the 4th step and sometimes my character defects and choices get me down. I talk to my sponsor and other sober friends about how I’m feeling and that helps. So does meditation or journaling, or moving my body and getting out of my brain! Good luck to you

I went through a two week dry drunk after doing my 4/5. It was a biotch! But I talked about my feelings of shame, guilt, embarrassment with my sponsor, best friend and wife and got through it. It’s emotionally draining sometimes but necessary to learn to forgive yourself.

A new freedom and a new happiness from the 9th step promises. You will get there. Remember it also says “sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, they will always materialize if you work for them “

Some of character defects take a bit but we eventually move past them. We have kept these things inside for years most of the time. The 4th step brings them into the light so we can face them head on. Keep up the work.

My 1st 4th step was 6 pages and my 5th step took hours. I can look back on them now without regret.

Actually doing a 5th step with my sponsor on Monday. We should have it done in a half hour because the old fears, resentments and defects of character have been removed over time.
