Freedom to be me

If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness.
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 83

My first true freedom is the freedom not to have to take a drink today. If I truly want it, I will work the Twelve Steps and the happiness of this freedom will come to me through the Steps – sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. Other freedoms will follow, and inventorying them is a new happiness. I had a new freedom today, the freedom to be me. I have the freedom to be the best me I have ever been.

Yes, my first go around being sober I loved taking inventory. The way it was worded to me, that helped so much was this. A mental inventory, we are getting rid of the garbage in our minds, just like a store gets rid of bad inventory and bad product we must do this as well mentally. Examine our thoughts and beliefs and see it they are truly helpful.
Thanks Matt.

Yes. It works both ways. That’s what I like about this reflection. We do our 4th and 5th to get rid of the bad. If we continue to practice and live the 12 steps we can see the stock of good or positive inventory. In the program inventorying the positives and being grateful for them helps combat self pity. At least it does for me.
