How do you spend your Friday nights in sobriety? My Friday nights in the past would consist of happy hour and then continuing on to wherever the party was. I’d love to know your experience and how you find enjoyment on the weekends? Any suggestions and feedback would be greatly appreciated!
An hour and 20 minute walk by the river tonight, volunteering from 7-3 tomorrow followed by a walk in a park, and Sunday is chore day with some type of exercise followed by an awards show to celebrate the local music scene. There will be alcohol for sale at the Sunday event, but I'll concentrate on the free food! Other weekends include attending theatre events or a unitarian service. Lots of sober things to do by me and walking and bike riding are free!
AA meeting and then dinner,
Reading, walking, TV, puzzles, friends. Just happy alcohol is not controlling my life any longer.
I go to a “happy hour” meeting and we all go bowling. Go to a happy meeting and be around other drunks. If not, make it a wind down weekend night, face mask, paint your nails, etc.
Dinner and then seeing music with buds who may or may not be drinking because I'm not anxious around it anymore and can leave whenever I want to!
I have a regular ice hockey game I play in on Friday nights. Quite a few rec leagues have games for different sports on weekend nights I’m told.
This is something I’m finding out too. Last night was extremely hard for me to stay in. My ex moved to a different state yesterday and I was feeling sad, she’s a great person. I used to drown myself in a night out when I was feeling low. My friend also had a bunch of her friends from out of town and there were several shows that were tempting to go to. I decided to schedule myself a workout class this morning and make plans to play soccer in the afternoon, this helped. Also, I decided to do take out from one of my favorite places and make some mocktails at home. I put the TV on and had a chill night to myself but it wasn’t easy. These transitions are hard so remember that. I did turn my studio on and made some music for like an hour before bed. I’m so grateful I had the strength to keep myself in. It’s 6:35 in the a.m and I’m awake and feel fine, I’m about to go meditate. Making plans in the morning on the weekends is something that helps a lot, doesn’t leave much space for staying out late the night before.
Thank you for sharing this man this was really helpful. I really like how despite how you were feeling you focused on stacking your plans to keep yourself busy. I find that the gym does wonders for me too anytime I’m feeling a little low I remind myself to “move a muscle change a thought” and just the practice of doing something other than sitting with my thoughts helps to distract me enough to give me time to change my perspective. It’s also just nice to know I’m not alone in how I feel. Although most of our stories are different our struggle is similar. Thanks for the encouragement and for helping to keep me sober today
That is awesome and a great idea. I need to look into maybe joining a local softball league or something. Thanks for the input
Coffee, meeting, dinner
Awesome! I’m glad I could help. Sitting with your thoughts on the weekend can be hard so I find that it’s better to practice that during the week. Either in the morning or at night, sometimes the feeling is so strong you can’t ignore it and sitting with it helps… it’s asking for your attention. Getting to know your emotions makes making better decisions on the weekend easier. I started implementing journaling and it’s made a huge positive change, I’m actually sitting in a coffee shop right now about to start
btw, feel free to reach out whenever!
Dinner with friends and watching the hockey playoffs - with a club soda and lime
I don't go out much anymore.
I'm 64 and busy planning for retirement.
Instead of looking for fun the old way, try something new.
Contact the nearest regional airport and ask to go up for a discovery flight. You get to fly the plane.
Sobriety means freedom.
Drinking holds us back.
I resurrected my road bike and took it out today. You got this Jon!
