Last night I got countless phone calls and texts between midnight and 2 am from an ex that is in the middle of destroying his life. He was wasted, out with college kids, drove his truck even tho he has a dui to the bar, calling & begging me to come pick him up 30 minutes away after I took my sleep med. i told him no & he started on the biggest self hate talk I’ve ever heard. How he can’t be alone one minute. Will pick up anyone just to sleep in the same bed. Has two dui. Can’t see his kids. Won’t admit he had a problem he’s convinced if he had someone to live him unconditionally his problems would disappear. I can’t get through. Now he’s telling me I wasn’t a friend last night or right now, I’m high and mighty & mad at him. I basically said I’m trying to get through to his thick skull that his life is worth fighting for, this isn’t working for him & if he needs help getting on the path I’m happy to guide him. I told him true blue friends won’t sit by and watch someone hate themselves so much they destroy their lives. All I can do is send love, say a prayer & hope to God anything I said got through to him. I WILL NOT ENABLE.
It’s tough for all.. just know that when he’s ready you’ll be there. We all will. He won’t understand until he’s ready, when he does he may fail but at least he will begin to understand… cunning and powerful..
That’s basically what I told him that based on what he’s saying he’s not ready, and I’m not going to enable him but when he’s ready I’m here with a hand to help him up. IMO and I’m sure this is very tough he could’ve benefited from walking home last night & realizing what he’s doing to his life
I think you handled yourself and the situation tremendously well. Maybe you could pass on the hotlines numbers to AA, NA, and suicide prevention, etc.
What drives me crazy is he doesn’t think he has a problem, I think people something think alcoholic means you wake up drinking. I view alcoholism as it being the source of major problems in life: and in his case that is dui, suspended license a year, threat to job, threat to meeting solid partner, and dangerous wreckless behavior when going out last night plus it being a depressive. But he thinks he’s fine. Smh
Everyone has their journey. You are blessed to have found your way out. May your ex finds his way out before it’s too late

My wife told me she didn’t get with me to watch me die from alcoholism. So I had to stop if we were gonna stay together. I’m sober 19 months now. We’re good
It’s simply hard.. but when a person is ready ., just seize the day and luv em.
Living in a world nowadays where people don't want to be in serious relationships. This is what happens, the loneliness and despair. In the long run, not wanting to be in serious relationships has it's consequences
Luv em
