I finally feel ready to attend a meeting. I need to start facing anxiety and do something constructive. Has anyone found friendship in A.A.? Also, what’s your favorite part of the program?
I just attended and volunteered at a conference/convention in my town. Really good experience for me. I've met a bunch of ppl through AA and ended up playing softball etc. It's been really good for me.
I also had a lot of resistance, anxiety, fear about it. Glad I started going to meetings anyway. Didn't have to force anything either, just took it slow and connected with folks who have what I want.
12 steps saved my life. I know that I cannot stay sober alone. I have made some friends in my program for sure.
My first meeting I was very concerned with procedures. Who was in charge. Why are they reading. What are they reading. I don’t know this prayer. Etc. but at the end I got a couple phone numbers from the guys and they encouraged me to go back. At my second meeting I kinda knew the drill. I recognized some faces. I was less anxious. I was able to hear and relate to the feelings other ppl described and I felt comfortable. Like I belonged. Now those meetings are often the highlight of my week.
Become active in the fellowship and you'll make friends that will last a lifetime, like I have.
Hello Ashleigh
I love AA! Some of good friends I’ve meet in AA. I’m very new 21 months but I’m starting to meet people and actually participate in friendship with others. Mostly Girls but I’m branching out to the fellows.
My favorite part is helping others. I attended meetings for the newcomer not for me.
My attitude is it’s time to show my face at meetings with my head up, eye contact and be present! I’m a loving person who’s alcoholism had given me bad ideas and situations. Today my recovery has given me a new outlook on life and my purpose!
Can’t wait to hear your favorite part?
How are you doing Ashleigh? Have you found a meeting you like?
I love all of it .it all works.I put in the work. 34 years
That’s how I feel right now. Gotta get better at that. Talking about my problems to strangers is not what I’m used to but I like it.
That’s a huge plus
