Gave in thinking I could just have one. The cravings

Gave in thinking I could just have one. The cravings were really high and I thought I could manage. My partner is incredibly mad at me now and I’m struggling to not feel ashamed/mad at myself for giving in and convincing myself that I could handle drinking.

I’d really love some encouragement and tools for what to do when the cravings are high.

Shame never solves anything and it such a disease Itself in recovery through group think. The important thing is you are continuing to gain awareness about yourself and actions and keep attempting to change the behaviors that you view as unfitting for yourself and only you can be the judge of that..flute everything and everyone else...it is your path alone.:slightly_smiling_face:

Distract yourself with a healthy, alternative activity. For different situations, come up with engaging short, mid-range, and longer options, like texting or calling someone, watching short online videos, lifting weights to music, showering, meditating, taking a walk, or doing a hobby. Having a sponsor or someone to text when you feel like that makes it a lot easier

AA's quote "1 drink is too many 100 drinks are never enough". I'm sorry you found out the hard way. You can never drink again period. Don't be too down on yourself. Most of us found out the same way. We all think we are different. I suggest reading Alcohol Explained by William Porter it's easy to read and understand what alcohol does to keep you addicted. Gillian Tietz's has a terrific podcast called Sober Powerd. Best of luck, reach out anytime

Both these free apps will tell you when and where AA meetings are in your area.

Play it forward when you have cravings. Imagine what happens and you’ll stop right there.

It happened to all of us. The key is to keep trying. Never give up on you

Hey, you are not alone. We’ve each had are moments. But they are just that, a moment in time. Remember why you started the journey, chalk this up to being a human being and move ahead. Slipping and falling are all part of this trip. Remember, you’ve got friends who will help you back up and on track again. Hang in there

Cravings are real. It’s hard for other people to understand because they can’t put themselves in your shoes. I’m in recovery and there is no way for me to understand your cravings. Being ashamed isn’t the end of the world, it’s a natural feeling but staying down on yourself never helps. You need to move forward and hope your partner can understand it isn’t easy. You need support especially the one closest to you. It’s understandable they upset because they want the best but it won’t help if they stay upset at you. Keep your head up.

Hey Vanessa, hope you're doing better today. It was a lesson you learned it. Now move on to a wonderful new sober life. It gets better
