She may not have been perfect, and made some mistakes; but what is something you are grateful for that mom gave you.
My mom taught me I can handle anything for a finite amount of time. She also taught me to “get back on the horse” so that I’d never succumb to my fears.
She taught me to serve others.
The power to bend space and time.
Taught me respect others.
She gave me my love of music. When I was a kid she would play her record collection for me. Those early musical memories helped shape an important part of my personality. Music has always been my saving grace.
She taught me to always be kind.
My momma did 3 years ago.. I sure miss her.. the one thing my momma taught me was to never depend on anyone.. my momma was never around much.. my granny raised me when I was little til my momma got custody of me when I was ten.. I lived with her 3 years til her husband started raping me.. and I left.. and I stayed with my granny til I got married at 15.. I basically grew up on my own.. but I learned to take care of myself.. I always felt I was as strong as any man except physically.. and I was even as strong as some of them.. I learned to do whatever it took to survive.. not having her in my life taught me to stand on my own 2 feet.. I’ve always been the sting one in my family.. it’s like I became the momma when she died.. I now take care of everyone else.. it’s like I’m the only one who has enough sense to handling things.. but my granny was the one who taught me the most.. my grandpa died when I was 5 and she raised me along with her own children my aunts and uncles that were like my brothers and sisters.. my granny was a good God fearing woman.. we didn’t have much but we survived.. I thank God for her.. I knew she loved me when I never knew if my mother did.. I started drinking when I was 12.. and drank all my life.. until I had to quit.. due to going blind from my blood sugar.. but I know it was only by the grace of God that He took the taste of alcohol from me.. but I still took care of my momma in her last days.. for 14 years that she battled 2 bouts of lung cancer.. I was with her up to the night she died in her sleep.. but God says to honor your mother and father.. so I did.. I can thank her for my strength to never be where I couldn’t do anything myself.. my mother spent her life in the bars… she taught me all the things I shouldn’t do.. from her mistakes..
Mom gave me life. And for that I’m grateful for. She didn’t know how I would turn out but She did her best with what she had. I had a few resentments over the years but now that I’m working a program which requires rigorous action I’m able to see my part. With that said I love my mom!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mom’s out there! You don’t just get this one day you get everyday! Keep raising your children to be healthy and joyous and kind!
Oh my, my grandma raised me also. My mom was a alcoholic, but I still loved her. She died at age 68 because of alcoholism. I am fiercely independent because of my Mom.
My mother wasn’t an alcoholic but she drank.. she worked in the bars from the time I was born at 18.. she was too young to drink so she became what they called B girls back then..hustling drinks.. she left me with some people where she was staying.. my grandpa found me and came and got me.. my momma didn’t even name me.. a madam who ran a house of Ill repute named me.. but she was young and that the only life she knew..I love her regardless.. I just wished she had shown a little love for me.. oh well I could write a book..
