Giving myself kindness and grace

Today is my third day sober! I have been drinking too much almost daily since I was a teenager. I’m 38 now! The truth is, alcohol makes me feel like sh*t physically, it makes me put my foot in my mouth in social interactions, it makes me a hungover and mediocre employee, and it has turned me into a person who walks around every day carrying shame and guilt.

Like a lot of you, I struggle with anxiety and depression. Alcohol has been my medicine, but over the years I’ve realized that it’s actually been my poison, making everything harder.

I’m consciously going to go on this journey with positivity, kindness, and grace. That’s what I deserve. No sense in dwelling on the past and things I can’t change. The future looks healthy and bright. Three days and counting!

I’m excited to be a part of this community and maybe even make some new friends. :two_hearts:

congrats to you and be proud of yourself for taking the hardest step. I'm new here as well bit the support is so wonderful. You are not alone here.
I too decided to make that change. it's hard but I'm feeling so much better about myself

You are off to a great start! You have lots of awareness! I can’t help but make a suggestion…find a daily program of recovery and work it. Getting and staying sober takes some work. You can do it

You mentioned that you have anxiety and depression. Are you seeing someone/some people for this? I know that without my mental doctors, I would be a complete mess. When you start feeling the unmasked emotions that come with sobriety, you can get hit pretty hard.

Well said. Thank you!
