Goin to rehab…

Hi all I’m new to this so not sure if I’m doin this right but… I need some advice… would be much appreciated… so I’m gonna have to go to rehab for a few months. I am not sure what to tell my ex bf. I don’t know if he will think it’s good I’m going or think it’s just a waste of time since the last time I went I relapsed right after getting out. I know he’s my ex but we still talk and things have been going good between us. Not sure how to bring up rehab with him.

Thanks

Remember, recovery is for you. It’s about you and you have to take care of yourself first. Until we live a healthy life for ourselves, we can’t be healthy for others.

You need to do what’s best for you. My story… I spent 2 months in rehab back in 2000. Got out and relapsed. In 2007, did a three 3 day detox and threw myself FULLY into AA. Haven’t had a drink since.

More importantly, what do you think about rehab? Sobriety is an inside job. You get out of it what you put into it.

I totally understand. I wanted to go to rehab to get clean off opioids yet my bf was being a weird about it because of his insecurities.
The right question is, what is good for you?
It’s your life your trying to save here and if he can’t support that..

It’s not about him. Sobriety is about you!

Tell him if you want to but it absolutely does not matter what he thinks. If you’re codependent, try to trust yourself and your decisions a little more. You are doing something positive for yourself, you don’t need validation for that.

Can you explain please? Because my ex boyfriend was acting weird when I decided to address my alcoholism. He seemed bothered by it.

No. Quite possibly (know from experience). He feels insecure because if and when you get sober would if you don’t want him anymore???? Right? Try to reassure him but don’t let him interfere with your recovery. You are only trying to better yourself and quite possibly save your life! Not to be extreme but people die from this disease. Go! Go now! Give yourself the life YOU deserve!

Make sure you are going to rehab for yourself because what he thinks should not matter

I agree 100% I've done 2 rehabs 90 days each and I learned an incredible amount but still held on to my ex as well. This time I'm doing it just for myself. 94 days

100% TRUTH :grinning: only we can do this but we can't do it alone

This is 100% you.
Relapse or not.
The only person you can control in life is you. This is your journey. He has his own journey

Hi Jo, thanks wow you’re right I do need to make decisions for myself more without needing validation. Oh that is weird! Did your boyfriend drink?? Okay so my ex was always supportive of me getting clean that’s what he always wanted even rehab he supported me but when I relapsed right after he finally had it with me. So now I’m just worried what he would think me going back …

This makes sense… I’m sure he knows how much I love him though and want to be with him still. Thank you you’re right this is serious I’ll be going soon very soon please wish me luck :four_leaf_clover::heart:

Hi Lorri, ahh I see … are you still talking to your ex? That’s great you are doing it for yourself congrats
