Going through a breakup

Going through a breakup
I know drinking and drugging will not make this situation any better.
But it doesn't stop me from thinking about it.
The pain I'm experiencing is awful!!! I'm so devastated from this.
I cant seem to look forward to anything.
I just moved out yesterday.
So incredibly sad and lonely

Hey Jean,
It sounds really painful what youre going through. I cant even imagine. Its easier to drink the pain away, but the few moments that make you feel better do not last. Im glad you realize that using will not make things better. And it takes a lot of strength to come into this community and share your pain. Breakups suck. Theyre heartbreaking. And it can be lonely. It can be hard to feel intense emotions, but to let yourself feel these things is important and healthy in order to heal. Right now it may feel awful, but to push these things aside and supress what youre going through can makes things worse. Let yourself be sad and feel these things that are scary and unknown. In time you can work on yourself like you already are in your sober journey. You can take time for yourself and for the other people in your life, and find new ways to appreciate yourself. I know right now its hard, but i can tell from your post that you have resilence. Im sending good vibes your way

Thank you for your wisdom and kind words

Whatever the story, upon reflection, he did you a favor A year from now you will be so much happier!!

Yes I know
It's hard right now
The pain is almost unbearable
Grateful to have my AA family to help.me through this time

When I feel my worst, the only thing that helps me is helping someone else.

I got leveled by a breakup in may. It took time but I stayed sober and learned a lot about myself. I’m 48 and that was my first sober relationship. Heartache galore but no regrets. The clarity is really helpful for me.

This was my first relationship after a 34 year marriage
I waited 2 years to date anyone
By the time my x husband and I divorced I didn't like him much so.it didn't hurt like this does
Time will.heal but time goes by so.slowly

Just don’t give up. Time will heal this wound also.

Thank you
I know
I've got 35 years in this wonderful AA family
It's nice to be able to share this here
I work 2nd shift so I get lonely at night
Thank you for the kind reminders

Be strong.I see you got this.fall back on your aa friends.they will help you!

Not sure you get off of that 2nd shift, but if it’s too late for an in person meeting there are 24 hours a day zoom meetings. My worst times are after work. I go to a 5:30 meeting and its my new happy hour. Stay strong, and know that your higher power has a plan for you :peace_symbol:

Break ups suck. But, in my case, staying either drunk and/or staying in a toxic relationship with a chronic cheater, would suck worse. I hope you have meetings to choose from where you are. I have been driving up to an hour away to find my serenity in AA rooms vs finding insanity in a bottle. My Higher Power has never cheated yet, nor lied about why He wants me to do things. I pray you draw near healthy places and people quickly.

(It's been about 32 days. I am already 80% happier.)

Btw, Jean, although app shows us as Friends, i cannot message you directly, unknown if that is affecting your other friends here as well.

I am not quite in the breakup stage yet, kind of more a cooling off situation where my recovery relationship of 11+ years has split into 2 separate households. She has her place and I have mine. We have come to the mutual agreement that our combined "expectations" and my work schedule of 13+ hours a day (she doesn't and never has worked outside the home) would be better served if we had our space to work on ourselves individually. Our program understandings are persistently in conflict.

There is simply nothing worse than to be going through a break up and trying to get sober at the same time. Going through a break up is actually the same as losing a loved one to sudden death. It's the same. All I can say is hang in there and do the right thing as best you can and this too shall pass...I'm going through the same thing and just doing my best each and every day

I know its hard on you now, but it won’t always feel this way.
Do you want to talk about it?
