going to like my second aa meeting ever. i think aa is stupid but i need to do something positive with my time. and it’s literally a block away.

Do you dislike it because of the religious dogma (I feel the same way)? Let's face it, if you aren't going into it with an open mind, it will be VERY difficult to stick with it. There are secular options.

Great. Keeping to try a variety of support options is great. Maybe try to find that one little thing that may help you and trash the rest. I’m a long time AA and still do a lot of trash dumping

i hate the religious sh*t. and today they wouldn’t allow me to talk about drugs which is my whole story so i was silent
if they let me talk about drugs and there were other women that would be preferably. can’t wait for tmrw cos i can call my counselor. i wanted to get a sponsor
My suggestion is either to fish me a meeting where they recognize duel addiction ( ours does ) our local group just sees it a addiction. Or put in your mind that when you speak and say alcohol, that your are talking about anything your dealing with. I have a similar story. I hear you when you say a lack of women, we often only have one female at meetings and hopefully I’m doing my part to spread comfort regardless of gender. I keep in mind that addiction is genderless but it is really important to connect with friends of your same gender to build a group of likeminded supportive friends. I feel ya
The religious aspect is sometimes overdone by people in meetings for sure. Once again I just put it in the trash and go to gratitude that they are sober. Funny thing is it’s probably my same belief but program done right you would never know what my beliefs are. We’d be bonded by our common disease and that’s it. My sponcor said the first day I arrived. Brian.. there is some higher power of the universe out there but most importantly is to know you are not it and that all you need to know about the higher power but.
I have mentioned this to OP a bazillion times, regarding the secular meetings as well as women's meetings.

I tried AA once, didn't like it at all, i mean.. maybe it was just that specific meeting that was throwing me off 
going to try an online meeting today, have you looked into NA meetings?

yeah i’m looking for those around me. i’ve listened to some on zoom id just like to meet people in person.

I get it. I prefer in person too. I think if you connect with a secular group you will be much happier and feel better supported. That's just been my personal experience, as a man. The women have a strong culture in the secular groups though, so that might be more welcoming for you in that aspect as well.
I’m going to throw this recovery option out there. I usually prefer to only recommend “free” options, but The Luckiest Club, and IGNTD Recovery are excellent recovery programs. I’m not as familiar with The Luckiest Club, but I know someone who has a few years of sobriety and speaks highly of it. IGNTD Recovery has a lot of options and dives deep into the root causes of our addictions.

I understand. Take a look. These are not treatment centers that cost $1,000’s. They have monthly fees to receive access to their meetings and support. There are other programs that are free. Either way, I get why you were not comfortable in the meeting you attended. It’s hard enough if you do fit into the demographics of those in attendance. My opinion is that NA would be a much better fit for you. I believe you can find your peeps.
my only fear with na is i was told they look down on people on suboxone or methadone which i plan to get on but i’ll try! i found a discord group at least

. I do personally know that IGNTD Recovery is open to everyone and everything.
Buddhist recovery meetings are something I felt more comfortable in.
Remember that AA is not religious. It is spiritual- there’s a difference. Just because they use the word “God” (of your understanding) it intimidates some people. All they ask is for you to believe that there is some force out there that you can believe in being your higher power. Go in with an open mind🤷♂️

Try NA. Try different meetings. Once u go a while,you’ll begin to like it. It’s weird at first but it helps when you a message
