Good morning. This is my first day of no drinking

Good morning. This is my first day of no drinking and my first day on this app. I need to really get this done this time. I continue to go back and forth, having some time of sobriety… a month, 4 months, 8 months etc. then spend even more time drinking in between. I just want to be free. I hope I can build a community of support and also be able to support others in the future.

I’m in the same boat! Iv tried tons of things like this before but part of my struggle is finding the right community. Hopefully this is it!

Welcome here Sarah.
Hopefully you can move from needing sobriety to wanting it. There’s tons of folks who need to sober up. We who are active in sobriety want to stay sober. We take it one day at a time. I suggest you find local A.A. meetings and attend those meetings.

Do you have a local A.A. or NA club or group?

Oh yes, that’s why I said I want to be free! I remember how great it is and how myself I feel when I am.

Good deal. So I suggest you get to meetings. 90 in 90 is a good starting point.

I have a couple. Not many and I don’t love the group… what would you suggest?

It’s kind of like this. I’m not really fond of going to the doctor. However, if I’m ill they can help me get better.
I don’t have to love the group. I’m there for the message that can save my life. The book talks about being willing to “go to any lengths” I have to be willing. Am I willing? Do I want to just keep doing it my way?
How well is my way working? My best thinking gets me drunk every time. Maybe it’s time to try somebody else’s thinking.

I’ve been where you are! I struggled and was a chronic relapser for decades. Finally I got serious and went ALL IN on my sober program. In person meetings every morning & night, got a sponsor, did the steps thoroughly, got a home group, took commitments and always said “yes”to service work.
14+ years completely sober and free from the labyrinth of addiction. Only wish I’d got serious sooner. But hey, I’m just super glad I finally woke up.
You can do this too, if you REALLY WANT it.
I hope this helps🙏

Rory, I tried to go to 90 different meetings in 90 days. So I could find the meetings & people I really liked and enjoyed. That’s when meetings became interesting, fun and deep.
I hope this helps🙏

That’s a beautiful way to put it and one that kind of humbled me a bit. I’m going to try again tonight. Thank you. Truly.

It does. I tend to go to one and not love it and get discouraged. I appreciate you
