When you feel like a shell of a person on pilot mode, putting everyone and everything infront of your needs it's very hard to keep a positive mindframe for me. I see no joy in life at the moment and see it getting worse before better and it sucks. I'm tired of walking through storms to walk through another..when does it finally break..I dunno
Hello Janay
Who is everyone?
Family?
May I ask how long you've been sober?
Regardless of how long you've been sober, I do know this. One of the great truths in life is that life is tough. Many people go to their grave believing that they are a victim of life. On the other hand, once we accept the fact that life is tough, the fact that life is tough no longer matters and we learn how to excel in life.
One of the slogans in AA is, this too shall pass. You could try saying the Serenity Prayer during your times of trouble.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference.
I don't know your personal situation but having said all that, sometimes we put people's needs ahead of ours and make it our responsibility when it should not be our responsibility at all.
Oh boy have I been here! Some days are definitely better than others.
Sometimes all you can do it just get through the day, and honestly that’s enough! Don’t expect more from yourself. It’s alright to feel beat down, burnt out, and defeated sometimes. We don’t let ourselves register the bad the way we should.
Yes, family..10 months. 9 of which I was pregnant so It was easier to stay clean honestly
Well based on a little bit that you have shared with me it sounds to me like you are simply taking responsibility in your life for things that you are responsible for. And for that I applaud you. Yes it can be easier to stay sober when one is pregnant versus not pregnant.
But think about this. Now that you are no longer pregnant you may feel as though picking up a drink to numb the pain of life will help you. But I would have to disagree with that if you are as alcoholic as I am.
Were you a problem drinker before you got pregnant? If you were, there's no reason to believe that anything has changed. And on top of everything else, you now have someone that is depending on you.
In short I would like to say that life never gets easier simply because we choose to say sober but we get better at handling life one day at a time without picking up a drink. It does get easier but sometimes we have to take things in stride.
And if you're thinking about picking up a drink you have to learn to play the scene all the way forward. What will happen if you pick up a drink? Only you can answer that. But at a minimum, the relief that you feel will be very short-lived. When you wake up, you will now have more guilt to carry around knowing that you accomplished nothing and now you will have to start all over again.
I highly recommend that if you think that you are alcoholic that you seek out some meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous and start hanging around with people that have been sober for a long time. That's what I did and I've been sober for over 8 years.
