Got this guy in the mail! Super pumped to get

Got IFS skills manual for addictions in the mail! Super pumped to get through it and use the skills for both myself and my patients! If any of you can afford an IFS therapist or find someone who practices it I strongly recommend! As a psychologist who has been in therapy throughout his life it has been the most effective treatment I’ve ever done as well as the most effective for my own clients. Make sure you use a professional, don’t trust anyone who isn’t certified or a licensed counselor/social worker/ psychologist to do this kind of work it can be damaging if not done right. Othe good books/easy reads include No Bad Parts, We all Have Parts, Parts work: an illustrated guide, and the Tender Parts. Let me know if you have any interest in this or other therapies and I’d be happy to help connect with resources and answer questions!

Keep it simple.12 steps

What does IFS stand for?

Internal Family Systems. It’s a therapy model been around for a long time now but only in the last 10-15 years has it been very popular. It’s still rare to find someone who can do it with you but once you learn it’s not very difficult, just requires effort and patience. The reason to do it with a professional is because it is highly experiential. I tend to help me clients get into a meditative state when we do it so they can hold an open, aware space for some really painful memories to come up and be reprocessed.

12 steps was never really effective for me personally. And for me IFS is simple because I’ve learned it inside and out like many have the big red book. Too each their own right?

What is IFS? Never hear of it. I might be interested lmk thanx

ACA does this.

American Counseling Association? Yes any professional counseling/clinical psychology organization will be aware of it. The thing is that it is not at all standard training so practitioners who are certified in it or at least very knowledgeable of it are not very common compared to other treatment models. But if you’re willing to get that vulnerable it is worth doing!

No it’s called Alcoholics of Adult children. Similar

So they do internal family systems? I had never heard of them so looked it up but don’t see anything specific about their programming aside from it being a 12-step program.

12 steps are done at different levels of soberity
