Im one of those "Grateful Dead" people- you probably know the type..
On 11.5.22 I was driving to a show, and decided I was done getting loaded- the next day I went to my first meeting.
It was cold and early- and I was crying and broken. I didnt know what to expect.
The first person who approached me said something that changed me.
He told me he got sober in the 80s at a Grateful Dead show.
Now, the band has a following of fans called "wharf rats." Folks who choose to not drug or drink, but still enjoy the music. While also helping others.
My life, wasnt over. It was just different.
I still go to shows, and im still sober.
And last night, I had the distinct pleasure of working the Wharf Rat table, and holding a meeting for peole like me.
You CAN recover, and you CAN still enjoy life. We AREN'T a glum lot.
Thank you for letting me share.
