So I'm curious what you use to grow or to strengthen your sobriety? The more details the better
Working the steps and community help me immensely
@kate138138 The steps take you to another level indeed. I do lack community service... I'm going to add that one!
It just helps me get out of self and my crazy non stop thoughts . Also trying to add journaling , just to see the progress /growth . Don’t always feel like I’m going forward and when I have it in writing it’s undeniable
Journaling.... another great idea among my head full of craziness!
Meetings meetings meetings
Alot of zoom meetings, two brick and mortar meetings a week, I listen to speaker meetings on YouTube, stop drinking on Reddit, I just looked up a super good one check this one out : emotional sobriety on YouTube. It's amazing. It's a breakdown of a letter written by bill w. It's ahhhhmazing.
I don't pick up no matter what and I reach out to my sponsor if I'm struggling
Church, surrounding myself with sober people, steps classes, working with the rehab program, playing music when I can
I got plugged in with a group of people who all had more time than I did; at 3 years I'm still the baby of the group. We all have different home groups and backgrounds- some got sober in rehabs, one runs a rehab, a detox nurse, I'm a teacher... but when COVID shut everything down - we were all faced with "no meetings-what now?!?" So we formed our own zoom group. I've learned about service on group and district levels (not sure if you're doing the AA thing) and gotten involved in service in several different meetings. Sponsoring is like the afterburners kicking in- it's amazing to pass the torch to others and to really be put to the test- sure I can talk the talk, read the book, pray the prayers, but am I really WALKING THE WALK?
I think the longer you're sober the more opportunities you'll have to use & see the effect it has on your life; it just gets better! Keep pushing
I know a few meetings too...do you get bummed if you don't get what you need at a meeting? Or do you think of what you can bring to it?
Right on! Meeting are definitely important for a lot of people.. specifically in early recovery if that's an outlet you choose. I've learned sometimes that my balance in life wasn't very balanced, so I've had to adapt with other things and areas in my life.
Definitely a great attitude! All the effort you put into drinking and things - put that same effort into your sobriety/recovery!
I could probably use more church in my life, I've always gotten something from the message regardless of what kind of church it is. I've been attempting to bike/run more ... along with a great soundtrack!
Area service has definitely taken my growth to a new level... traditions and even the concepts....many different spiritual principles in those along with the steps. Spiritual principles that can be used to grow and guide you in your life and service to others. Keeping staying green baby!
