Had 2 glasses of wine for lunch yesterday. Went to friends drank a bottle of wine then 2 more glasses when I got home. Feel like . Today! How do I stop!

Sounds very familiar. The first thing to realize is that itā€™s the FIRST glass of wine that is the problem. We take the first drink, then the drinks take us. So in order to stop you need to learn how not to drink the first glass. Have you ever tried a recovery program? Thatā€™s how most of us do it.

No I have not tried a recovery program.

Hey there! There are AA meetings in your town! Tomorrow at 7pm. Weā€™re happy to support you here, but definitely look to make some in person connections as well!

I prefer not to go to AA

There is SMART recovery

Which is what? Thank you

Remember it's a poison that has no real benefit. Perceived benefits, sure, but they are all illusions. Seriously every single one. Once you realize that you're not missing out on anything by avoiding the poison you will be setup for success.

Thank you

Thereā€™s also The Luckiest Club and Recovery Dharma. A few people on here enjoy the secular AA meetings, as they eliminate all the god talk. Either way, these programs will help you to create a new sober lifestyle

How do I find a mentor?

Go to the hospital or a detox and get on some Ativan for a couple days.

Thank you

Just general advice wish I would've got earlier in my process.. Be very open to any available options , think sometimes movies or stigmas can be harmful to what recovery programs are truly like
Personally I never meshed well with AA/NA but without giving it a honest chance wouldn't of found what did work.

These types of communities can be invaluable

Hi, Just to back up what SoberSoFlo said, if you take that first drink, you canā€™t get drunk, but you are experiencing what many of us have. Even with the best of intentions, if we have one drink, sometimes it stops there, but often it doesnā€™t. If addicted, Your body will demand more. I am almost 4 years soberā€¦. Itā€™s just a string of ā€œjust one dayā€ s. Iā€™ve tried a few different things- a moderation program, Dharma Recovery, and AA. I mostly use AA meetings cuz I found a really good meeting/home group of people who have become an incredible support network. But I really dislike some other meetings. And I weave in my own components. This app is a small part, Time in Nature is a big part of my recovery. Recognize that you already are making a start. The beginning of sobriety can be really hard and uncomfortable. It gets easier AND itā€™s WAY betterā€¦ but donā€™t go it alone. You never have to be alone again. There are just too many of us
