Had a new traumatic memory resurface today while I was at work. Kinda thought I had figured out my triggers but now I have a new one to work through. Thankfully I was able to take a few minutes to acknowledge what was happening, feel my emotions, let out a few tears, and then get back to work. Working in the social work field can be triggering. Helping others to deal with their own trauma can be triggering. Doing all of this with anxiety and depression while sober is absolutely exhausting. But I’m not giving up. I have to keep going.
Thank you for your service in the social work field, your presence is so needed and very much appreciated!! Your share made me realize that I am not alone with traumatic memories coming out of no where and I'm happy you were able to work through it!! Stay strong and many blessings on your journey!
Beautifully said! I can absolutely relate being a School Counselor. I had to take time off to work on myself but I can not wait to get back to it when I am better
. It was never easy and I know I’ll experience these events again too but the reward is so much greater
It’s all about working on you and knowing what you need!
Thank you for the kind words. It definitely helps me too knowing that I am not alone
Thank you. Glad you are taking time for yourself!
I think you have an amazing perspective on things.
For me, when I was 3 months clean memories and flashbacks and dreams came up that I was not sure were real. I talked with an addiction therapist who told me what they were and it was real childhood trauma.
He told me to: talk about it, write about it and share about it. “It” can have power over you and talking sharing and writings gives away its power over you. Ya know what? He was right. I haven’t had any dreams in 2 years and in fact, I learned it forgive that person.
Thank you. I love this. I plan to discuss with my therapist next week
