Had my first non alcoholic drink at a bar today. Felt good to be in control.
That takes courage. It took me a while to get there. Ginger ale for all!!
That ran through my head the other day because I wanted a drink but I was convinced otherwise and I still debate this ..?? Opinion of several others telling me it’s a bad idea so now I am curious of did you stop at just one drink or continue? Did your mind accept this as alcohol drink or just like drinking water ? Did it enhance your desire to really drink ? I just have questions but congratulations on staying in control.
How long have you been sober?
Be careful
Bottles of booze and people with drinks in their hand never triggers me. It’s when people annoy me that’s when. You’ll be fine you can’t run or hide from it you’re doing great
I stopped at one. I debated another but grabbed water. My mind for me did accept it because it tastes just like the drink and not gross and obviously not with alcohol. It did not enhance it for me. I went with a friend who was drinking. I guess for me I didn’t feel out of place.
Today is day 8
Yeah I’m not triggered by that either.
Great self-control
Great job! You self control is admirable and inspiring
I'm glad it went well for you. Just be very careful when doing so. Remember your past and what got you to the point so that you don't want a "real" drink today or in the future.
Stay focused and
Stay strong.
Day 8 and you're in a bar. Just a suggestion.. don't go into bars. Our sickness likes to try to fool us, this time it went great.. who knows about the next time. Ask yourself, why did you go into a bar? Why did you feel the need to be in that environment so early in your recovery?
Recovery IS NOT about self control!
I'm not knocking you sweety... this is coming from a place of love for you. I have lots of days of recovery behind me. I'm telling you the reality of recovery. You SHOULD not be in a bar right now.
Keep it up! There are so many yummy options that are not booze. I love what MJ says on the sober stories, “Don’t worry about me, I’ll be drinking — there just won’t be alcohol in my drink. Worry about yourself.” LOL
Sorry to jump in and respond. Personally when I became sober I avoided bars for a couple months. I have been to them to play pool but I leave when the crowd starts to get drunk. Also, for me, I can’t drink near beers. I’ve tried that a hundred times and always made me turn to the real deal. For some reason though, I have became a huge fan of seltzer water. Straight up non flavored bubbly water. I don’t know if it’s the fizz but it’s enjoyable to me. My opinion on the matter is to just watch yourself and bein tune which how you are feeling. If you start to feel uncomfortable or that urge to consume actual alcohol just leave. They say go into those type of situations where you know that alcohol will be part of the social event to drink plenty of water and eat beforehand. Have a strategy for an exit. Don’t ever feel ashamed to just bail. This is all for you amd fix& social pressures. Be selfish amd concerned just for yourself man
I have to agree with you. I think that’s sound advice. I’m only past the year and half mark and I don’t go out of my way to go to bars or anywhere I know that will be the main focus. It’s also just not fun for me. Being around drunk people is just plain annoying anymore. I can only imagine just how annoying it was for everyone that was around me during my time in the bottle
What was the drink of choice if you don’t mind me asking?
just a quick reminder non alcoholic beer is for non alcoholics
Eventually...it was just "what I drink" at "wherever"...that day will come...baby steps...baby steps...lol
I will be 21 months 7/3 and I can’t even sit in the same room as the bar in a restaurant. It totally makes me want to join them at the bar. I was so physically addicted that I still want to but I fight day and day to keep my sobriety. Don’t want to lose what I have gained back.
