Hardest Part - Vulnerability

It took me over 20 years to finally admit I have an addiction to alcohol. I've had experiences from drinking daily to getting black out drunk and getting aggressive or projecting anger at people around me. I've lost important friends and ended relationships because of this. More importantly I've realized how much I have hurt other people who did absolutely wrong but loved me and want to be around me.

The hardest part is noticing how depending I was on alcohol thinking it helped me become a functional human being.

I was wrong and definitely in denial.

I realized I wasn't able to embrace my true self. And discovering true self starts with being vulnerable and walking through my own weaknesses. By loving myself is when I can then allow other people to love me and I can love others in return.

This is my first day of sobriety. This is my first post.

I am so, so, so grateful that there are communities like this that are out there to support others in need.

And I am so freaking proud of myself of finally...taking my first step to being vulnerable and get to know my true self.

Very cool. That is the first step, admitting you have a problem. Hope you follow through with learning how to not use. Welcome. Good first post.

Hello and welcome. Best of luck on your journey

Welcome Lily! Becoming aware of all of this, and becoming willing to do something about it are huge steps. It’s very painful to look back at the damage we caused to ourselves and our loved ones. May today be a new day of a new sober life. Recovery is not easy, but it is absolutely worth the struggle :peace_symbol:

Acceptance is very important. Things will become better day by day.

I wish you all the best in great journey and never feel alone and you will always find good and encouraging people in this journey.

I have talked to people who tell me that crying doesn't show weakness and to surrender doesn't either it is a sign of strength.
Tell yourself
I am strong
God cares for me and loves me
In time I will heal with faith
or write down positive affirmations on sticky notes and stick em to a mirror and remind yourself you are worth it. Self-respect and self- love are learned behaviors. I'm no better than anyone and nobody is better than me. We are all pieces that have to fit together so that we can see the big picture.
Stay positive and Godspeed.

It really takes a solid friend one who can always be with you.
An most people have been successful with getting involved with people.
It’s not the potholes that made us fall.
It’s that we don’t know how to avoid them that’s why I like being around people who have ridden this bike for a minute or two so I can be taught to avoid what most find do obvious
