Agree on the good sponsor thing. I have a buddy back home (Jersey) that has 12 years and has kind of been like a sponsor to me. I cab definitely see the benefits of having one close to home though.

Daily prayer. Jesus is my strength today and over the last 20 days! This app is helping. I hop on every day and am encouraged by the overwhelming support here.

It goes beyond knowing why. It’s about looking at ourselves and our resentments, clearing them and looking at our part, helping others. I didn’t mean to minimize recovery to knowing the why...if goes much deeper and further than that in the steps...but they why is more than because of another person or a bad relationship if you are a truly an alcoholic. As alcoholics we are powerless. We can remove an obstacle from our life but we will still eventually relapse if we don’t realizes we are powerless over alcohol and seek a higher power who can and will restore us if you seek Him

I’d say it depends on your quality of life sober. Are you calm peaceful and not experiencing drama? The problem is that we can take away the alcohol but keep on with the personality and behaviors of drinking. I was a dry drunk for seven years and it was the most miserable time of my life. Now being in AA and worked the steps twice and use it as a way of life, I’m a happy peaceful person with little to complain about. I’ve seen others that do great without so I know it’s possible but not me
