has anyone else experienced feeling extremely uncomfortable after getting sober?… I’m at my 40 day mark and , I’m slowly building my life back piece by piece and building relationships again , but i can’t seem to shake this constant feeling of being very very uncomfortable, not knowing how to really interact with people , or just do daily activities
I’m 18 months and still uncomfortable meeting new people or keeping eye contact or holding conversation.
This is the process. Until we can make those old amends, we make indirect amends to build that confidence. Congrats on 40 days, that's amazing
I am sure most of us feel this way. Relearning how to be a person is difficult. If you think about it, everyone you know is getting to meet the new and improved you! How cool is that! It can be tough on you mentally but embrace it. Learn from it. Remember the past but don’t regret or fear it. All it is, is a lesson on what we don’t want to be. Congrats on 40! That’s a great accomplishment,
Routine, healthy daily habits, knowing who you are with God...... Asking for strong faith. Then u won't be "uncomfortable" .... Where's the inventory list or diary card
I remember those days! You’re not alone my friend. I would share at a meeting early on as if what I had to say was revolutionary to the recovery world… then fellowshipping afterwards. Not knowing anything about recovery or 12 steps programs. Plus wanting all my stuff back, job, house, money… it felt like if I could run away all this would go away. I can say that it had happened a few times 28 months in. It’s fear based, now that I understand what my mind is trying to do. It’s like my mind is always in protect mode. This is why I meditate even though I’m not super good at it. Need to quite that racing mind.
Anyways, I hope you’re feeling better now? Lean into it! Your emotions and feelings. They will pass.
It’s normal! You’ve been using much longer than 40 days I assume so give yourself a break, time for your mind and body to heal and you’ll get there! Meetings help a ton!
After Corona alot of people are acting differently. We all have our alcohol and drug problems. It's just some time's there are different aspects of life that come into play.
I think it's very normal to feel that way, I'm at 26 and I feel it as well. I see people when I'm out and wonder if I pissed them off in a drunken blackout. Shopping sober is weird....
Listen to “sober awkward “ - they are hilarious but talk about this on every podcast
Thank you my friend !
You’re welcome
I’ve committed to the idea that I’ve always been uncomfortable and that’s why I drank and used.
I’ve never been comfortable without substance or chaos.
For me being sober gives me a chance to truly feel my emotions and manage them without masking them.
I hope that makes.
Everything you said is all normal as is reflected by the other comments. A sponsor told me years ago not to put any expectations on yourself.
Take a deep breath and rejoice. You're sober!
Life doesn't get easier right after we get sober but we get better at handling life one day at a time.
Hang on tight. It gets better.
Get to some meetings. If I were in your shoes and I only had 40 days I would be going to a meeting every day.
Remember
It's 10 miles into the woods and 10 miles back out!
No, none of us have ever felt uncomfortable.
I'm new to ever really admitting I have no control. And I always fear how to enjoy life without alcohol as it's always gna be at an event that I wouldn't know how to enjoy without it.
Thank you Adam !!!!
Congrats on 42 days Jess!!..
Yes, it’s a whole new experience but it will pass, one day at a time. Just like you did with building your life and relationships piece by piece, slowly learn to love yourself and remember that your not a bad person from this situation. If anything, you’re beautiful on the inside and out, because of how strong you are to take the steps through this rough but mending path of your sobriety. Stay strong
Also, thanks for being of service as a Behavior Specialist. I am one as well and it’s rough, but so rewarding!
