You wrote your own answer in the third sentence. We, as a whole never ever "get the sobriety thing"

Accept it and recognize what led to it and learn from it. You are making progress. That's what matters. And yes, for about 10 years I kept relapsing after 30, 60, and 90 days sober. Good news is I am 500+ days now bc I kept at it and you will get there too.

I attribute my success in the past 11mo or so to a few things.

  1. Doing my daily gratitudes daily, starting each day with positivity and acknowledgement.
  2. Posting a Cost-Benefot Analysis on my mirror.
  3. Creating a holistic routine that includes not only sobriety but meditation and mental health, counseling, meeting, doet, exercise and so much more.
  4. NA, Celebrate Recovery and SMART Recovery
  5. Mocktails

2 things maybe - stop focusing on that time frame. Get it put of your head. Don't count the days if that helps. Juat be in the moment, forget about "milestones" until you're sure you "got this"
The other would be change the pattern: if there is ANY doubt you'll be able to be In a situation where you can remain sober, don't be in that situation.
Have "backup" plans /a long term to-do list ready. Girls call you for a night out? Check the list and do one of those things instead.

You’re absolutely right. I have decided to not be around anyone drinking for at least 6 months. Possibly 9 or even 1 year. That means no in-law family functions at all. I have got to start protecting my sobriety.

One day, you'll wake up, going about your normal business, and suddenly realize its not a struggle or even on your mind any more. You'll get there, and you'll feel awesome.

I can totally relate. I do pretty well abstaining during the week but as soon as the weekend hits I feel the need to drink.

This was me for about 18 months before I "got it," and I happen to be celebrating 18 months of consistent sobriety today. Sorry to hear this is happening, but please don't let a sense of failure come over you. It is not easy and everytime you get some time together, it is not all lost. The lessons you've learned continue to live on and you will and have been getting stronger everytime.
