Has anyone had any success using any type of medication for alcoholism ?
Naltrexone helped me. Used it for my first week or two.
That’s the one that I was looking into , any positives or negatives about it ?
I didn’t get any side effects. I didn’t drink on it. Not sure if it was the placebo effect but it really seemed to help with the initial cravings.
Actually, yeah, but probably not what you'd think or what you're looking for. But just in case, I was prescribed Zoloft for ocd and depression. I decided to give it a really serious try and sobered up for a few days before I started it. Only the third time I've really given the meds a chance - usually I fall off and start drinking on them and then have to switch. Anyways, after a week or two the unstoppable compulsion to drink was just lifted suddenly and has not come back. Been sober for over 200 days now and haven't missed a dose or had a drink.
Hi Brandy, did you stay on it or was it only supposed to get you over the initial hump?
Just the initial hump.
I’m taking antabus it works well for me.
How did you go about getting a prescription?
Same with me. Been on it for over a year. Alcohol free!
It made me have a change in appetite is that normal does it last or just when u start it
I didn’t notice a change in appetite on it. I do notice an increases craving for sweets without alcohol. Just ask your doctor or mental health provider.
