Intermittent fasting works well. It works by using up the atp (energy) stored in our muscle fibers which means fat needs to be pulled from storages (belly, love handles, pick your spot lol) and that process is normally not engaged when we workout. I’m short its a way to get the body to burn fat from our reserves instead of the readily available carbs from when we eat.
Also to be fair I have no idea about ketosis and liver function. That one you will have too see for yourself.
I'm right there with ya. Lost 30 in a few months just getting sober and no other changes. Shows how many calories you're getting just from that alone.
Yes you can! I tend to swell up in my face when I drink and since I have stopped my face has slimmed down a lot. I think that’s why they call it a beer gut too! Alcohol definitely makes me swell. It’s definitely a bonus of being sober is getting healthy and looking healthy!
Quite the opposite here
I lost weight 3 years ago when I found out I had liver issues. The combination of stress and not drinking, I lost 30 pounds in about six months. But i never totally committed to sobriety and as I started drinking again, I started gaining it back. I know I eat more when I drink too, bad food choices and munchies. Now I’ve been sober 73 days and have lost about 5 pounds but I have more of a sweet tooth. I’m running tho and have so much more energy!
Hi Vicki! I have liver issues from drinking too which was a huge wake up call. I hope to lose the weight I’ve gained from drinking. I need to lose a good 20lbs. I’ve been taking my dog for walks every day and being conscious about what I put into my body. Hopefully it will start to show.
Man, I gained 43 pounds in my first 4 months of sobriety.
Not kidding. Now, I needed to gain weight, and like I tend to do, I went overboard. I’ve lost 5 pounds, and have about 15 to go. I’m running a half marathon in June, so once the ice clears here and I can start running regularly, it’ll melt off.
Running is so hard haha i should try it though. That’s awesome you’re in a marathon! That’s a great goal to work towards and a great habit to replace with drinking. You have plenty of time until then. You got it!!
Heavy fight training like kickboxing will help you shed tons of weight and is fun as he11!
Lol. I’ve gained wait, and it’s not muscle. Working out and playing soccer were part of my obsessive craziness. I’ve been going to the gym about 3 times a week, but not training with the crazy sick intensity like I used to. Haven’t played soccer in 7 months. That really kept me lean. AA meetings and my relationship with the Mrs are my top priorities. A little dad belly isn’t going to kill me. Like you, I’m hungry all the time! Better to be sober with tight pants Wedad, than be the zombies we were before getting sober. Here’s to fat and happy…
It will for sure! Plus dogs are great therapists too. Fitness has really helped me dig out of depression and feel strong both mentally and physically. I was devastated and shocked when I found out about my liver problems. I was so embarrassed. I quit drinking at first but was far from sober. I was being told by a doc I had to stop and I felt like something was being taken away from me. After these three years of on and off the wagon, I can truly say this time is different. I want sobriety more than anything. I’ve proved to myself like a million times I can’t moderate. And now I don’t want it in my life. I’m not ashamed anymore because I’m being true to myself finally. Sorry for the rambling, it’s a messed up bumpy journey but I’m so ready!
I lost weight but I gained a desire to drink sugary soda's, I think because I was getting so many calories from wine and liquor. I used to only drink water, coffee or tea when I was sober. So I compromised and drink those Bubly carbonated waters now.
I don’t really go to the gym or anything but just the lack of 2000 calories per night in alcohol, plus the horrible food I used to order after drinking… combined with all the walking I get at work and on weekends now from not being hungover.. it’s definitely added up to some weight loss.
Did your liver heal with time? Hoping mine will and it’s not too late.
I lost about 6 lbs overall. Quit alcohol (most of my calories) and exercised regularly but I still eat whatever I want. The sweet tooth can be real but it’s better than the alternative.
I feel this. I lost weight and my wallet gained weight.
My liver is not healed but not in distress either. My enzymes are all normal now but the damage is there. Luckily it’s a hardworking organ that can handle a lot of abuse. But it has its limits. My understanding is the healing takes time. But as long as you remove the alcohol, it will get better, as will overall health.
You might like this: I named my liver. Her name is Edna (Every Day No Alcohol). It’s easier for me to connect w her that way and take care of her. Plus my friends and family now know about my sobriety too and remind me not to mess w “Edna.” Makes me feel slightly more light hearted about a serious issue.
Your Edna will heal too as u stick w it!
Hahaha I love that. I hope both our Edna’s heal soon!
Quiet the opposite 🥲🤣
