Has anyone tried a supplement to try and help the cravings for alcohol? I’m going to try Declinol and just wondered if anyone else has and what their experience was.

Wow. Not cheap. Mixed reviews. Meetings are free tho.

I went to a few AA meetings and they didn’t help, in fact the opposite. I went in with an open mind but wasn’t for me.

There are other programs. Thing is, recovery is a “we” program. We stay sober, me doesn’t. No short cuts to it. Hope you find a way. Good luck.

And yeah they are expensive but I’m desperate at this point. My rational is it’s cheaper than my drinking. I’m on day 4 (today) and feel pretty good and determined.

Honestly taking my vitamins has helped me . My therapist told me that when we drink it just takes from the serotonin we have . We think it’s making us happy but it’s taking what we already have . After a while of use it depletes our reservoirs making us want more to be happy . Always talk to a health care professional first . But some of the vitamins I take now are 5HTP , Super B , of course my one a day and some enhancements of some vitamins in those . A great herb to relax is Ashwagandha also recommended by my therapist . I take it before bed . Taste like dirt in the liquid form but you get use to it lol . I also have CBD drinks.

You’re welcome

Acamprosate calcium, it's a prescription drug it is specifically for the reduction of cravings for alcohol. Aside from that the ashwagandha is good lot of B1 and B12, valerian root

I found taking glutamine several times a day in the first few days really helped me and my body adapt to not drink to allow myself to focus on other aspects of recovery. It is one supplement that really helped me break the cycle. GABA also helped the anxiety as well and helped me feel calmer.

The best supplement to remove the urges and cravings, for me, is steps 1 through 3 of AA.
Let’s us know how this supplement works for you could help someone on here…

Hi Lori. I have 1 year and 10 months sober. My first 15 months I was taking/prescribed naltrexone for cravings. It definitely helped curb the physical cravings. AA has been lifesaver for living life sober though

My doctor gave me Naltrexone and it worked - at least I didn't relapse while I was on it for 6 months. Then I thought I was fine without it and stopped and relapsed. Hindsight is 20-20!

Do you get exercise? Get the urge to drink, go for an hour long walk.

I don’t and I definitely need to start doing that.

I thought about that RX and I may go see my Dr about it if this and my determination doesn’t work. Thank you for sharing!
