Has anyone tried methadone

I was on methadone on two occasions. The first time for about 8-9 months and the second time for 3-4 months. Both times I had to self taper off it to be able to go to treatment (most treatment centers around here won't accept methadone addicts. The withdrawal is on a whole other level). The first time was at a clinic. It was government funded, so they don't want you to get off it. I met people there that had been on it for DECADES. The second time was after an injury/hospital stay. The doctor put me on it because of my history of SUD. I've seen people withdrawal from years of methadone use. It's scary.
