Have recently found that my current routine has been helping so much with structure in my sobriety. Being able to set myself up for success daily by following a schedule has been such a huge help! Set up a routine everyday to guide you and see if it helps! Nothing but love on this beatiful wednesday! 🫶🏼
Structure and intentional routines are helpful to fight back against the chaos we invite with addiction. What parts of your routine would you highlight that help support your recovery?
Routines matter to me today after a little over 2 years too.
Some days it was a struggle to get out of bed and start my day.
Counting down from 5 to 1 and then forcing myself to move on those days worked.
Once out of bed, start making your bed.
Do the best you can.
If you decide later you want to get back into bed, at least it is made for you so it feels better.
One task accomplished, so now on to another.
My morning starts with my coffee ritual.
I make and have 2 cups outside with a couple of cigarettes.
If I am lucky (and running later than normal)
I have the pleasure of watching the sunrise a little.
Some stretching and a walk is normal for me.
Then on to readings.
I start with some quotes and the reflection for the day.
That's a good way to start any day for me.
I am imperfect and do not completely do it all some days.
But my best days usually start when I do all of that in the morning.
Anyone else have similar routines?
Or additional tasks they do?
If I sway from structure I can get DISorganized quick. Relatable!
Structure is something I am lacking for sure. I’m only a few days sober and I don’t have a job yet so I’m not sure how to structure my day yet. I will start with structuring what little I have to do around meetings so I don’t miss those. Any other tips or suggestions are welcome.
I would have to say preparing my food for the week so I’m not worried about what I’m going eat has relieved my anxiety. Also improved with my time management!
Try organizing things in your kitchen, living and sleeping area! It helps me be able to find things much easier so I can keep my routine fluid and not wondering where things are! A paper calendar/planner has helped me well, the action of physically writing something into it sticks with me.
