Haven’t drank since 8-13 but desire daily. I take walks

Haven’t drank since 8-13 but desire daily. I take walks so I don’t get in car to drive and get any alcohol. I don’t know how to get past this, it seems my desire to drink strengthens daily.

In my first cpl weeks after detox, I would give my neighbors my car keys so I couldn’t go to the store. I live alone so I had to do something like you’re doing. I was so scared of myself. Every day it gets easier to resist the cravings. It sucks that we can get alcohol anywhere. You walk into a gas station these days and there’s a basket of shooters right next to the cash register by the tootsie rolls. It only takes 99 cents to f yourself all up. You’re not alone. Keep walking. It’s good for you anyways.

Getting sober is not easy. If it was you would not be here. In the big book read “ The Doctor’s Opinion”. When you understand and accept you have a disease sobriety will get easier . It is a mental obsession and physical addiction. The cravings will pass only if you stay sober. Go to a meeting. Good luck🙏

Meetings, get a sponsor, work a program of recovery. You can not do it alone. Don’t let alcohol isolate you or it will win.

Join AA. The program talks about an allergy of the body. Also an obsession of the mind. Look up Famous Joe and Charlie. They have a wonderful recording of a workshop they did that explain their story and how it relates to the text book of Alcoholics Anonymous (aka the big book). It’s beautiful what they have done to help get the message across.
For me taking steps 1,2&3 and practicing them daily has removed the urges and cravings and obsession to drink. My problem is I need to continue with steps 4-9 which I believe will remove the obsession of the mind when it comes to the resentments, fear, harm and my sex conduct towards people, places and things. This is where I’m at today. Stuck in my head with all the stories I continue to replay.
Get a sponsor. Work the steps

Walking is great for mental health and I also walk. I have a liquor/bar within a half mile. I would have slipped years ago using your technique. Whatever works for you stick with it - good luck
