Start with a program. AA worked for me. Talk to your doctor. Depending on the amount and drug it can be dangerous to go go cold Turkey.

Congratulations for still being on an app like this. Nothing worse than trying to tackle your life’s biggest problem alone. First things first. You must stop drinking. Clear your system of all alcohol. Then immediately AA or depending on the severity of the draw, a hospital visit or facility.

May I ask what isn't working in your efforts? I don't believe in a cookie cutter model. Try to figure out first what isn't working in your efforts. Whatever that looks like to you. Are there any methods that did work or you feel that would work realistically for you personally and your current situation that you want to try or have tried?

It’s really about surrender. If you’re getting sober to get sober then you have a good shot. Any other reason is really not sustainable. It takes work too. AA works for me and it would for you too.

Hello Becky, welcome. Looking back on my years of drinking and then the few times I tried to get sober, doing it on my own was way harder then where I am now. I’m a member of AA. This is my first time in a program after trying about three times on my own and twice with medical help. I can say that having a program and good sober people who have a working knowledge the steps had been a blessing. Also, for me looking at the teachings of Jesus has helped my get closer to God.
I pray that something I wrote here will guide you in the right direction.
I’m I powerless over Alcohol? I’m I willing to go to any lengths to get sober?

What’s the reason for getting sober?

Get right to a meeting. Being around sober people doing sober things, real, tangible sober things. That is the best start. You don't have to be religious, or even a "believer", I'm not and there are alot of secular meetings out there that are religion free that are legit AA meetings without the other stuff. Also online. Get a sponsor.

Yes, many times. Alcohol has always been a struggle for me.

Thank you, I am going to look up some of those books.

I’ve struggled with alcohol for many years, not the drinking around the clock type, but once I have a drink in the evening I don’t stop until I go to bed, which is late. I’ve tried AA and was successful, many years ago, but I felt as if I could be more of a social drinker and eased back into it more. My situation is different now though, I am with a husband who drinks a lot and is not willing to stop drinking. We also have three kids, which I am responsible for, so I am not able to make it to meetings or anything. So it’s a difficult situation for me.
