Hello everyone I need a little help/info. I need to to how the best way to ween of alcohol. I'm done with it, but research say it will kill me.( I would drink a gallon/day 4-6 yrs. Ago since I had went down to a fifth. Recently that fifth will last about three days other nights 1-2. As of today I'm ready to stop completely) please any advice......I'm not going to the hospital. I can do this I know I just need a guide if anyone could help thanks stay strong you got this.

Medical detox. Most people that I’ve talked to (and it’s been my experience) that it doesn’t work to wean ourselves off alcohol. It’s hard to drink ourselves sober. Any way you do it won’t be easy though. It’s painful, but doable. I’ve done it in a hospital, but my last time was at home. The doctor gave me a small prescription of light benzos, but they didn’t help much. I still had to go through the $hit. I think doing it at a detox center/hospital is much safer, because they can monitor your vitals. Good luck. Be strong.

I don’t have an answer, I wish I did. Medical detox would be ideal. I white-knuckled it but was also recovering from an alcohol related injury which probably helped some. It sounds like you’ve had success weening some but at some point you just have to stop. Some medical attention or at least a friend staying with you would be ideal
I would talk to your doctor to explore your options. There is medication that could help, but your doctor can determine the safest route for you.
And like Shawn said, any way you do it won’t be easy, but it will be worth it

I drank 10 drinks a night at my lightest and went straight to detox, but yeah I would highly suggest medical detox. Weening yourself off is something I tried many many times. It just doesn’t work.
I detoxed alone and it was easily the worst pain I’ve been in my life. You’ll need to control withdrawal symptoms, including extreme anxiety. If you cannot medically detox with professionals, I would make sure someone is monitoring you in case it turns south. Delirium tremors or seizures could lead to death. You’ll need to hyper hydrate and not take medicine that will be hard on your liver.
Which ever way you choose is gona hurt mentally, emotionally, physically..
Medical would be the easier softer way as well safer.
I did it cold Turkey.. both Herion and Alcohol together and it was insane.
I would truly recommend medical detox due to coming from such high consumption..
It’s either that or good ol Honey 7-up chocolate pepto and plenty of water/pedialyte
I went cold turkey. Almost stroked out and I wasn't drinking as much as you are. Get help.

Ask your doctor about naltrexone or vivitrol, it will curb the cravings almost completely and I’m sure they’ll give you some other comfort meds!! Good luck John, you got this man!! Just do it!
