Hello everyone, just wanted to post an update. I want

Hello everyone, just wanted to post an update. I want to remind everyone no matter how hopeless addiction feels never give up, time and determination will heal all. For a series of months now I have been becoming familiar with the idea of drinking less or stopping completely. This is a difficult task when the norm for me was drinking 7 to 14 beers a day for almost 5 years now. It has been a long and difficult journey so far. Trying all sorts of substitutions for alcohol, changing my lifestyle habits, failing over and over again just to pick myself back up and hope for better days. Through all the headaches, mistakes, tears, withdrawals, feelings of hopelessness and fear that this addiction to alcohol will kill me one day, I have stayed determined in picking myself back up day after day. I am finally at the point where I can consistently go a week at a time without alcohol. It has been a difficult road but I am finally starting to see progress and feel that I have gotten over a hump. I am not craving alcohol as badly anymore and enjoy being able to do my hobbies. I have also really enjoyed being able to remember and retain information more accurately. I can finally progress in all the things that alcohol has been holding me back from, my job, writing music, painting, better relationships with friends and family. It’s amazing how you can pick up an addiction at a young age thinking it’s cool and fun, and before you know it years go by. It spirals out of control and takes over your life. In reality I feel that I have lived more in the past few months of scattered moments of sobriety than I have in the past four years. I can finally feel hope, I want to kick this addiction to take back control of my life because I have come to the realization that there is so much more to live for than being drunk every day. It’s going to take a long time to get my health back in order and recover from all the damage I have done but I can see a light. I just want to remind everyone on here to stay determined to what you want to achieve, no matter how hopeless it feels and how bad it hurts you can take back control of your life and beat this. There is so much more to live for and I believe in all of you and know that you can do this. Stay strong, you got this.
