When the pain of picking up a drink exceeds the annoyance of attending a meeting, you'll be ready to surrender & get sober. Good luck in the meantime and you know where to find us.
If you don’t feel comfortable talking at a meeting then state “I pass” you don’t even have to identify. You can’t be kicked out for choosing not to share.
Try contacting some of the individuals on here and maybe you you will find the help your seeking.. if anything you you will be SUGGESTED a direction to take.
Sounds to me like there just might be a desire there, with a desire things become possible.
Best of luck to ya brother
I’ve found just being in the presence of others at meetings can be a huge support. I’ve certainly opted not to share. I may not even particularly identify with the specific organization, but knowing I’m not alone and being surrounded by accepting, empathetic and understanding people can make all the difference. That being said, I’m so glad you’re reaching out to this community. You’re taking steps, even if sometimes it’s hard to see.
Drew brother, I get it. I really REALLY didn’t want to go to meetings and my first 6 months sober never did. But I was still miserable. It wasn’t until I started meeting that things improved. I was one one of those who used to make fun of AA, now it’s the one constant in my life. The fellowship with others is key. If you don’t believe in everything, it’s ok. Take what works for you.
I have said the same things and then always went back to drinking. Just look at what you wrote. I want to stop drinking but I don’t want to do this or that. The easier softer way doesn’t work. Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path.
Hello Drew,
I am glad you used the words want that tells me you know enough that you think it may help but you are looking for alternatives to the traditional route.
however doing things we do not want to do is part of life.
You hate drinking and want to stop but find yourself on this app because you cannot. However you also have conditions to not go to meetings or talk.
I only ask you to consider some things for thought....
You don't have to talk but be it a meeting, a podcast, a book, a therapist, ect. you are going to need help and should listen and or read.
If you have a drinking problem negotiating terms and conditions is a non starter. It creates a way out an excuse as to why you haven't quit yet
Getting connected to a sober community like a local meeting can be a great way to meet people and find sober activities and networks of accountability. The meetings do not have to become part of a never ending ritual.
You are not comfortable drinking and want to change . Change is hard it requires sacrifice.
I feel like I'm ranting so apologies if I'm a bit preachy in this post.
Good luck Drew !
