Hello. My name is Drew. I am drunk. I hate drinking. I want to stop, but I don’t want to go meetings. I don’t want to talk. This app is all I have right now. Is there anyone in Iowa to help me?
Please help me.
Hey man- I’m not in Iowa, but I’m doing my version of praying for you. Feel free to DM me if you decide you do want to talk or text someone. Tons of people are able to maintain sobriety because of AA, but it’s not your only option. There are a ton of different paths to sobriety, and the fact that you want to stop is huge and it’s the key. Keep posting here, too- there’s a lot of people that are fantastic and willing to help you on your journey.
Get into a spiritual program. Find your higher power and surrender
You tried it your way your who life. Try it somebody else’s way!
Hi Drew. I’m happy to give you details for some great meetings.
I completely understand what you are going through. We’ve all been there.
Happy to help my man

I don't want to sound cross but what do you want to do to help yourself? Nobody can tell you what to do. They can only tell you what worked for them. Me I rehabbed 2, read alot of posts, AA meetings, and got educated on addiction. You can message me and I'll tell you my story and help anyway I can. But you have to do it yourself for yourself.
Ahhh, so you want a magic wand to cure you then. Sobriety is a full time 24/7 job. Gotta put the foot work in to make it work.
Drew, try smartrecovery. Org. They have online meetings and you don’t have to talk, you can just listen. It’s different from AA. Give them a try.
I believe I read that you don’t want to talk nor go to meetings..
right or am I wrong?
I also believe that I read, “I hate drinking I want to stop”
I’m curious what kind of help are you seeking?
Recovery happens with action.. drinking happens with action. You already said that you don’t want to drink.. that action will no longer be needed.
Looks to me like there’s only one other option left.. action in recovery.
As far as action in active addiction goes there’s plenty other options: JAILS INSTITUTIONS AND DEATH.
Some of these you might have already experienced.
I would like to hear!
Hey Drew! I feel your dilemma brother! Without knowledge by your attempts at sobriety history, I’m not sure how to reply to your post. Regardless, you have stated that you don’t want to drink anymore. That right there puts you on the road to recovery! For most of us, the problem isn’t stopping drinking. Many of us have stopped many times. The bigger problem is how to stay stopped! I’ve been around longer than I’d like to admit, and thru my own personal experiences, as well as my observations, those who stay stopped are the ones that have worked a daily program into their lives. I’m more familiar with AA, but I see other alternatives working well for others. In either case, these people don’t just go to a few meetings, or read a few books, or pray and meditate for a few weeks, etc. The common theme amongst those that are maintaining sobriety and finding peace and joy in their lives, is that they have a daily program/ritual that keeps them on the beam. Most of us resist these programs because our minds have been poisoned by our illness, and are allowing the negative committee in our heads run out lives. Take some time to become aware of how you think and feel. Become aware of the negative bs that is playing in your head. Once you can do this, you will see how your own mind is self sabotaging your life, and you can begin to take actions to overcome your problems. Wishing you well brother. Hope you can find your way, and then help another suffering soul to find their way

Just to be clear, I meant that I don’t want to talk at meetings. I have contacted close to 20 places for counseling, but have not received any responses.
Thank you for your reply.
It’s going to require a willingness to change and open mindednesses. If you don’t have those, it’s going to be a rough road for you, my friend. Almost everyone of us has tried it on their own. It’s a painful route. Give yourself a chance and be open to meetings. Otherwise, I’m afraid this is going to drag out for you.
You don’t need to talk. Just listen.
What are you willing todo? That’s the question. I was willing todo anything to get messed up. If I’m willing todo anything to ruin my life and kill myself? I should be willing to do anything to make it better and live. Not drinking is great but without having others to show me how to live I’d go right back to it. Drinking and drugging is the only way I knew to get rid of my emotions. Meetings, a sponsor and yes a god I can actually subscribe too, is the only real answer I found. I go through periods where I don’t want to, and I suffer most through isolation and self will
If I fall for my own “don’t want too!!” I start getting the “I can’t”
Understand. However, just to be clear, the reason you don’t want to talking meetings goes back to the negative thoughts your sick mind is feeding you. Ask yourself why you don’t want to talk. Typically it’s fear of something. The bottom line is its all bs! Pray (to God, the universe, Mother Nature, a power greater than yourself that you don’t understand) for the strength and courage to speak. Get on your knees every morning regardless of what negative thoughts and reasons your mind is telling you not to, and just do it. Do the opposite of what your sick thoughts are telling you. I don’t know how or why this works. I don’t even care to want to figure it all out. I just know it worked for me, and countless others. You gotta become willing my man. Don’t wait until you’ve lost everything to try these things.
Look Drew, if you want to quit you gotta take action. You can't get sober without doing so. It makes no sense to want something but to get it without any work. If your not willing to do what it takes to get sober, you may never quit. Just being honest. It takes action and counseling alone isn't gonna help. You'll have to learn to get comfortable with being uncomfortable at meeting and start to open up. Go to a detox and try to complete a rehab. Keep your options open and give it an honest, open minded, willing chance to work for you and you will see the rewards manifest in your life. All I know is if your not really willing to do what it takes to quit because I bet you do what it takes to get drunk. Then you'll never stop. Best wishes and prayers go out to you.
