Rosalyn, I have been there- in retrospect, your 11-year-old doesn’t understand. I am by no means a parental coach, but I am pretty sure that all your 11-year-old wants is for you to get better.
I would say keep the conversation simple, and that you are seeking help and most of all that it is not the fault of the child.
I had a couple flashbacks when I read your post with regards to my kids. We didn’t argue, I had no defense to stand on, but it’s hard to hear your son say “dad please don’t drink”.
