Help! Relapse

So after a clean streak of 467 days of sober and clean I had a surgery done to me. My recovery was very painful that Tylenol alone didn’t cut it. I was prescribed pain meds. Thinking I had my addiction under control I took them as prescribed. Two weeks into my recovery I fell back into my addiction and now I don’t want to stop. Was it wrong if me to get those pain killers prescribed to me? I don’t know what I’ve done to myself now. Help!?

Don't beat yourself up too bad. Hospitals are best for keeping people drugged up which in turn can easily lead to a relapse. With this in mind, I would package up your recent relapse with your prescribed pain relief and leave them both behind. In other words, don't count it as a relapse, as it was not essentially your fault you started using again. Just get back on the wagon and carry on the course as if you just hit nothing more than a speed bump which was unavoidable. Hope this helps!
