Hey everyone! I’m new here and looking for a community

It is very much based on science and psychology. Not to say other programs are not, however the approach IS different and you shouldn't be able to attend more than 2 meetings before recognizing the difference, not pinpointing, but recognizing a difference exists. I went to a VA rehab and more of the folks than not had been to rehab multiple times. MOST chose to attend SMART, I did both
Had I not attended SMART, I imagine I would have relapsed 3+ times in the past 3.5 uears instead of once. I honestly don't think I would have survived without the tools they gave me. That was my experience at least.

I looked at their website and read some testimonials and the approach sounds appealing. I’m not huge on meetings, as my social anxiety is pretty bad, but it’s worth a try.

Hi Ashley, I also grew up Mormon so I completely get it. Learning that religion and spirituality are two separate things was essential for me and my recovery. I also have found a wonderful home with CA - Cocaine Anonymous. I’d love to chat if you’re interested. Welcome home!

Hey Maya, I saw you’re from SLC, I grew up in Layton! Thus the Mormonism lol.
The spirituality side of things doesn’t do it for me, I prefer a science based approach, which it seems SMART is based on, so I’m going to give that a try. I’m always down to chat!

Welcome. I have 35 months yesterday no sponsor yet either. Maybe soon but I have the most amazing recovery team. When I left detox October of 2020 they had everything set up for me. Counselor, Recovery Coach, IOP and now Early Recovery Meetings. I just know I don’t want to go back to the h@ll I was in and I don’t want to hurt my family again. Finally rebuilding those relationships. Life is good not always easy but good. Hard time still being around a lot of alcohol but getting better at it.:pray:

Thanks Eric! I’ve done really well on my sobriety without much help, so it’s nice to find a community to have some extra support.

They have online meetings. IDK how you go about getting a copy of the workbook but if you were able, you could potentially do all of the exercises with a "mentor" of sorts and would have the lessons at least, as well as a mentor, amd then use this community in place of a support group. Just a thought. I am not sure how exactly that plays out as far as execution.

The online meetings can be found by using the SMART Recovery app and possibly through their website.
