Hey guys, my name is Laura and I’m an alcoholic

Hi Laura keep up the good work

Hi Laura, I’m joe, alcoholic. I hear you about anything that numbs me out. I’ve been sober for 7 years now. I feel good but it helps me to remember that I have to try and avoid making promises I can’t keep. As an alcoholic I can’t promise I’ll stay sober for the next 10 years, but I can do my best today, one day at a time. Nice to meet you.

Hey Laura, Ryan here - alcoholic. Just coming up on my 9 mos sober. Reading your profile you’re a RN? That complicates it right. Im a medic. 10 year fireman. We go from chaos at work. To then self induced chaos at home. It’s gnarly. Im just kind of starting to figure it out but not even close. Im not crazy amount of mtgs guy but they do help. Listening to other ppl that are so similar. Im still skeptical on parts of the steps. Im trying not to be too critical of god damn near everything. Life is a trip and all I know is I have been numbing myself since I’ve been 15 or so. The job just exacerbated it. But it’s honestly like learning to live all over “feeling all the feels” shit that’s hard AF. but it will keep you present. You know what won’t keep you present? Drinking, smoking etc. we know this. The whole one day at a time shit works. Keep at it. You be ight. Keep talking to people. The last 9 mos I wish I knew then what I know now for sure. That only happens in community. Have a good night. Stay up and work at it - all of us are too

Good morning Laura. You’re a nurse, right? I used to be an RN but am changing careers. Have you thought about CBT with mindfulness? It has really helped a lot of people with regulating emotions. I joined this app a couple of days ago and I feel this is a safe place of support with a sense of camaraderie. Welcome

Welcome Laura!

Hey Jennifer, thank you for the warm welcome. I am currently working with a therapist and practicing affirmations. My career is not great for my mental health but I’m still working on not letting it sabotage me. What do you like to do to stay on track?
