Thank you Maegan!
Hey Laura! I think it’s great that your working with someone. I have surrounded myself with a few (not a lot) great friends who are sober like me. Also, my faith has gotten stronger since becoming sober. Exercise and nature or just being outdoors is really helpful for me.
Welcome!
Thank you Brandy!
I appreciate that. Thank you Mandi
Hi Jennifer, pardon my ignorance, but can I ask what is CBT?
Welcome Laura, I am Kathy, I am an addict. 23 years of pain killers. If anything hurt, physically or emotionally, the pain killers did the job. I am dealing with emotions now that I buried in a blur of methadone and norco. My husband left in 2007, and has since passed away. I am just now grieving his loss. My Dad died 5 years ago. I will never stop grieving the loss of the 2 men that I loved most in my life. I have found that my faith and trying to keep God in my center helps with sobriety and grief. I get vivitrol shots every month which help immensely. I feel that as long as those cravings are not there, I can do this! Being part of this group helps tremendously. I need to do more, as far as group meetings, etc. I am still not totally sold on which way I want to go....Smart Recovery or 12 step meetings. I did NA meetings some years back. I just need to find what works for me. Being part of this group is the next stepping stone. I am resolute to not going back to my old way of life. It was nothing but destruction!
We can do this if we all stick together!!
Hi Kathy! This isn’t an ignorant question. Who would know if you’re not in the field or haven’t been treated with this model? CBT is Cognitive Behavior Therapy. It’s a practice that’s used for recovery from addictions and mental illnesses like anxiety and depression. It’s very effective. When we’re in active addiction, our brains have created and entrenched pathways that are unhealthy (think: stinkin’ thinkin’ if you’ve ever heard that phrase from AA?) Anyway, CBT practice creates new pathways that are healthy. It’s a process. It takes time and practice, but it helps with obviously recovery and is used often for anxiety and depression.
Thanks Jennifer, that is really interesting and makes a lot of common sense too. Thanks for the explanation!
Hello and welcome
Welcome Laura
Hello Laura, congratulations on being sober! I just celebrated my 64th birthday on May 2nd and now I officially have 4 years clean and sober! By this time next month I will be living and practicing Chiropractic in the Dominican Republic! I am so very blessed and grateful!
Jennifer, I am familiar with CBT and have used it. I am also familiar with and certified in NLP. In addition I am proficient in EFT and PSTEC. My favorite is PSTEC!

Hello how is everthing
Hi Laura we all are here for some reason you ever need to chat we're here.
Facing the pain of any given situation is the most difficult part of getting sober. Admitting I'm an alcoholic was easy but was I willing to face my problems head on.
This is the tricky part and not something to do alone.
So hard. I wish you well. I am in the same boat as you
