Hey guys. So I haven’t been drinking since June 19th. I noticed one symptom more than the others which is extreme fatigue especially towards the end of the day. Is that anyone else? Or can someone explain that to me? I’m not worried just want to hear other perspectives
Well, fatigue is one of the main and most common symptoms you deal with when quitting drinking. Your body gets so used to functioning with alcohol in your system. When we quit, we experience withdrawal symptoms. Sometimes it takes a while for our bodies to readjust to not having a substance in it. It’s a normal feeling.
PAWS (post acute withdrawal syndrome) lasts a few months and in some cases up to a year. Your body is re-learning what homeostasis is. Take it easy. You’ll get through it.
I cannot speak to your experience, but with me I didn’t really start feeling “well” until about 90 days. And then it was like a fog lifted.
Pay attention to your body. If you’re exhausted, rest. If you’re thirsty, drink water. If you suffer from insomnia (very common in PAWS) try a 10-15 minute guided meditation before bed. There are supplements that some people try, but overall it just takes time.
Addicts/alcoholics are impatient by nature. We think in terms of quick fixes. I’m anxious, I need a drink. I’m sad, I need a drink. I’m happy, let’s celebrate. This is a time in your life where your internal condition will not be repaired with an external quick fix.
I’m day 46 and just sooooo exhausted constantly but I’ve battled that for quite a few years now so idk if it’s related to sobriety now or what exactly but then also have insomnia
June 19th was my 1 year sober anniversary.
Could be you’re not used to feeling your feelings. It’s exhausting to actually have to deal with our emotions. At the end of the day I also feel spent. For me, I feel like I just need to shut down at the end of the day.
I’m sure a combination of factors are at play, but it may be worth considering talking to your doctor about a b vitamin complex supplement. It’s common for alcohol to deplete these important vitamins. deficiency in various b vitamins can lead to low energy and depression (among other issues).
Same here. It feels like I need twice as much sleep as I used to, which is weird. I'm thankful that I'm not working a traditional job and have the ability to give myself those extra hours of sleep in the morning.
I think it's going to get easier over time. Best to be patient with your new needs.. it's so worth it!
Hi Ana! June 19th was my last drink, too. I am thoroughly exhausted. Without alcohol, I have to be more present in life...I have to experience the emotional ups and downs instead of escaping them...I am having more difficult, real conversations with my family...I am more present for my kids and playing more...it is all exhausting, but I don't want to escape all of it anymore.
Thank goodness
thanks so much!
Great explanation for me. I appreciate the breakdown of it.
