hey there, i had a panic attack this week that was scary and im still recovering from it days later, been sober 460+ days but i went to an AA meeting and some of the stories really got to me and i had some coffee, the combo set me spiraling, i’ve gotten help tho and am overall ok, just wanted to share and see if anyone deals with panic attacks?
I used to have them bad. Keep reaching out. I remember I had to do a lot of deep breathing and it helped. Also working out. I totally understand what you are going through.
I hate those…. Nothing worse than the sense of doom
thank you, have you tried anti anxiety meds by chance?
thank you, have you ever tried anti anxiety meds by chance?
agree, do you ever use anti anxiety meds?
I’ve taken Xanax before but nothing ever prescribed to me. I always hated how pills make me feel but I might have to seek a script from a Dr for something. I’ve been sober almost 11 months and I thought they would go away once sober. They don’t come as often so that’s a plus
Truth be told I did and got addicted to them. Just be careful what kind you get. But then again I’m an addict. Sadly. But I learned. Thus the deep breathing.
I might suggest asking your doctor about Hydroxyzine. I’ve used it since rehab for panic attacks and it’s just a cousin of benedryl that happens to help panic attacks- not addictive at all. Might dry up your sinuses at worst. It works fast and great! Most regular MD’s don’t really know about it for panic attacks.
I don’t really have panic attacks but I do have seriously disturbing dreams. I wake up and wonder where the heck “that” came from. Last night was giant centipedes attacking me. They often leave me kinda….disturbed. I usually fold towels, blow leaves, vacuum, groom my horses or make to do lists. Keeping myself really busy seems to help, and the things I do are cathartic to me. Luckily I live in south central Texas so the weather is great this time of year. My suggestion is to redirect that nervousness into something that makes you feel good. I always do things that I can complete because if I can’t finish that opens me up for more unneeded stress because I’m very OCD. Hang in there and remember, you didn’t drink!!
Matt, hi…as Alison mentioned…you did not drink!
I am perpetually looking for ways to get my anxiety under control.
I have started utilizing The Tapping Solution-an app created by Nick Ortner and his siblings.
Think EFT. Emotional Freedom Technique.
It may not be for everyone while I have found so to be helpful along with right, breath work, meditating, yoga…when I am disciplined to do these things, that is!
I will continue to not drink with you tonight.
I have been receiving error messages when trying to “ like “ others’ comments / suggestions…as usual, there are solid ones here.
Please keep us posted!
Lexapro helped generally. Xanax as needed for panic attacks. Haven’t needed Xanax since I started lexapro
Ohhh yes. Many. Im on an SSRI for Depression/Anxiety and due to my most recent episode (2-3 weeks ago) they upped the dosage and gave me hydroxyzine as needed twice a day. You are not alone
